Maryland Comptroller candidate Peter Franchot, left, toured the Hackerman site on Indian Bridge Road on Thursday with Del. John Bohanan and Sen. Roy Dyson.  At right is former St. Mary's Commissioner Robert Jarboe and citizen activist Linda Vallandingham, both of whom have led the effort to keep state park land from being turned over to a Baltimore developer in a back room deal concocted by Maryland Gov. Bob Ehrlich and endorsed by St. Mary's Commissioner President Tommy McKay.
After touring the state land endangered by the proposed handover at a cheap price to the developer, Franchot had lunch with Bohanan and Dyson at Mama Leone's Brick Oven Pizza in Callaway where he told Bill Callaway that he would be a common sense Comptroller who would be attentive to the needs and problems of small businesses in their dealings with the state government.

Friends and Family of Bozo Pilots who landed chopper upside down at St. Mary's Fairgrounds on Friday the 13th respond to jabs at the quality of their piloting skills with barbs and threats.
..one caller who said her name is Catherine Graham, threatened a lawsuit, presumably it will be filed by the Commander in Cheese, George Bush.
"I am going to call a real newspaper" she huffed and then hung up before she answered if that real newspaper was the Emptyprize.   Maybe this babe with the southern accent was referring to the McKay Election Gazette, otherwise known as the McKayprize.

Another brave soul, who simply listed his name as Concerned Citizen, had this to say,
"
So what your saying is that it doesn't matter what the cause of the accident was, weather human or mechanical failure, you automatically label our military personnel as BOZO's? Yep sounds like a SMIB statement if ever saw one, you nobody.

To the Editor:
You are a little hard on these Helo pilots from Pax--You have no clue what happened in that Helo and why it landed upside down, neither do I. I am sure there are 10 million things that can go wrong and that fact that they walked away should be of paramount importance, they don't need to be called "bozo's" and told they went to 3 stooges flight school. I applaud them I applaud their choice to enlist in the Armed Services and protect my freedom. I have been an avid reader and always a supporter of your paper, I moved out of state and still tune in for the real truth of what's going on in good ole St Marys but I gotta tell ya, this time you acted like a jerk!! Please respond….Mr Dave Bradshaw

(Editor's Note: Dave; I thought the Three Stooges Flight School would give away the fact that this viewpoint towards our illustrious pilots is a lighthearted joke.  We seriously pray, in print, on each page, with the words God Bless Our Troops each week, likely one of the few newspapers in America to do so.  But when these cool cats land a plane upside down, they will be roasted, kidded and made fun of, as they weren't hurt and our military serves to protect our Constitution, all of it, including our Bill of Rights which gives us the Freedom of the Press to print serious news and to joke and jab at our military from the Commander in Cheese right down to Bozo Pilots.  You of course, have the freedom not to buy the paper or cheat and get it free online.  Frankly, I don't care why they did this or how it happened, I only hope they ground these guys and let them drive Jeeps in the future. Hope you are well and take a deep breath.)

Bozo Pilots Landed Chopper Upside Down

ST. MARY'S TODAY photo
Military personnel were on the scene of this wrecked helicopter all weekend trying to figure out how the pilots managed to land it upside down and walk away uninjured.  Perhaps this type of landing will become a new style for these very talented pilots.  Will these pilots be sent back to flight school? Did the graduate from the Three Stooges Academy of Flight?   If they are sent overseas, will they be sent to Australia where they will be right side up whenever they land?

Plane Crash

Faulty Landing Gear Causes Total Loss to
Plane at St. Mary's Airport

The Good Side:
Close but no cigar....you can't see the charred right side of this BE 200 King Air as it sat on the side of the runway at St. Mary's Airport.   This plane lost it's landing gear upon landing at  around noon today, causing the right wing to snap off and burn, with a total loss to the aircraft, of up to $1.2 million.  The plane, owned by Steve Bildman of Aerotech,  is used under contract to the Navy and is based at St. Mary's Airport.  3 persons, including two pilots were on board and were lucky to escape the fire when the right wing broke off. When the plane first hit ground, fire immediately began to spread.  The airport was forced to close for the day.  The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. ST. MARY'S TODAY aviation writer Jim Davis reports that the pilots took evasive action when the gear actuator switch failed and were able to avoid serious injury or loss of life.

Using a credit or debit card at Arby's in Lexington Park?  A customer reports that he used his card and left it behind at the Roast Beef outlet.  He reports that the card was then used by the store manager to go shopping at Canopy Liquors.  The victim reports that his photo was on his card but it was scratched out and the clerk at the liquor store still allowed the stolen card to be used.   The victim reports that the Arby's employee who stole the card is still working at the Great Mills Road location.  ST. MARY'S TODAY has requested the St. Mary's Sheriff's Dept. to provide information on when charges are placed in the case. Police have confirmed that the incident took place and that they have an open investigation.

Bi-partisan paddling opens park
St. Mary's Commissioners Dan Raley (D. Great Mills) left, and Larry Jarboe (R. Golden Beach), right, prepare to launch the new canoe and kayak launching ramp on the upper reaches of the St. Mary's River at Great Mills.  Jarboe proposed using the site of an old apartment building which had been purchased with federal flood assistance funds in order to prevent further flooding after years of repeated evacuations of the residents.  The occupants of the building were given assistance in relocation to new housing and the land left after the demolition of the building was quickly becoming a collection site for old cars. Jarboe proposed that an access point for recreational use be implemented and the county commissioners dedicated the new park, likely the lowest cost park ever constructed, on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006.  ST. Open letter to police officials: Where are the cops?
Just look at the parking lot of the world headquarters of the St. Mary's Sheriff's Department between 8 am and 4 pm, it fills up to the gills....at 4 pm it empties out as dozens of deputies leave their desk jobs and go home in taxpayer provided vehicles...yet Sheriff Zylak always asks for two things: more deputies and a raise for his wife...why does he pay his wife overtime for her clerical job?  Answer: the commissioners wouldn't fund a raise for her so he gets around the funding problem by giving her unlimited overtime....he gives his honey your money while she hires her family to work at many jobs in the sheriff's office, making Nepotism the number one order of business.
ELECTION YEAR QUIZ FOR SHERIFF ZYLAK:  Answer these questions if you can:  With shootings in nice neighborhoods, bar brawls and murders, thugs running wild at the county fair, Leonardtown fireman's carnival ended this year due to fights; where is the law and order, where are the police?  With the money being spent on law enforcement, why all of the crime and mayhem?  What are you doing to actually slow down traffic, put an end to drug trafficking and stop the murders and gun play? Will you admit the existence of gang activity in St. Mary's?
ACCOUNTABILITY FOR STATE POLICE
SUPERINTENDENT COL. TIM HUTCHINS:

With the population of Southern Maryland tripling over the past 30 years, why does the State Police have less troopers assigned to the region than 30 years ago?  What are you doing about the out-of-control crime, rampant shootings and reckless violence?  What are you doing about gangs and bikers?  Is there really a 'War on Drugs' or is it all a publicity stunt?
(Editor's Note: Any answers received from Col. Hutchins or Sheriff Zylak will be presented to our readers online and in print.)
