Officer Fired Several Shots As Heathens Tried to Run Him Down

The Prince George’s County Police Department reports that it is investigating a shooting involving a Montgomery County Police Officer.

On July 19, 2004, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Lt. Demetri Kornegay, a MCPD officer, was off duty and in plain clothes, when he heard a vehicle idling in front of a residence in the 9000 block of Hobart Street in Springdale , Maryland. When he looked outside, he saw several suspects around his unmarked police vehicle parked in front of the house. As the officer exited the residence, he displayed his badge, identified himself as a police officer and ordered the suspects to stop. The suspects did not comply with the officer’s commands and drove their vehicle toward him. As the officer jumped out of the way, he noticed the suspects fumbling around inside their vehicle. The officer pointed his weapon inside the vehicle with his arm partially inside and again ordered the suspects to stop. The suspects continued to drive and the officer discharged his service weapon multiple times. The officer was not injured in the incident.  It is unknown if any suspects were injured.

Anyone with additional information about this case is asked to call the Prince George’s County Police Department’s District II Investigative Section at (301) 390-2100.  The investigation is continuing.
