Old Man Given Brutal Beating and Robbed
LEXINGTON PARK --- On August 25th, 2004 St. Mary's Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence located in Lexington Park for a reported robbery. The victim was identified by police as ninety-one (91) year old John Wilson Pope who police say answered his front door and was assaulted.  Pope suffered a bloody noise, bruised chest, and a bruised eye and was transported to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Detective Clay Safford reports that he identified Simone Marie Stewart from Lexington Park as the person who beat and robbed Pope. Detectives executed a Search and Seizure Warrant for the suspect's residence and the suspect was located and later placed under arrest. According to Cpl. Steve Hall, Stewart was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and charged with Robbery, Theft Under $500, and Assault 2nd Degree.

Bystanders Saved Family from Burning Truck

HUNTINGTOWN — Two brothers died in a tragic crash on Wednesday after the car in one of the brothers was driving his brother and another youth crossed the center line of Plum Point Road and hit a truck head-on.

According to Calvert Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Chip Allen, on August 18th, 2004 at 7:07 pm, Calvert responded to Plum Point Road in the area of Old Plum Point Road in Huntingtown, Md. for a reported serious auto crash.

Deputies report that a Chevrolet Cavalier operated by Niko Stergiou, 21, of North Beach, was east bound on Plum Point Road in Huntingtown. The Cavalier crossed the centerline striking a Chevrolet Suburban head-on. The Suburban then struck the guardrail and caught fire. Police say that the passersby helped the occupants of the burning Suburban out of truck as EMS and police arrived.

Niko Stergiou was pronounced dead at Calvert Memorial Hospital, his rear seat passenger, Jacob Stergiou, 16, also of North Beach, who was ejected during the crash was flown to Prince George’s Shock Trauma where he later succumbed to his injuries. Todd Williams 19, of Owings, Md. was also flown to P.G. Shock Trauma, there is no word on his condition at this time.

The driver of the Suburban, Tina Hassler and a 3-year-old passenger were flown to Washington Hospital Center. Her 17-year-old passenger was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital. Their condition is also unknown.

This crash is being investigated by Accident Reconstructionists from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Department.

Sailor Charged in Thefts

PATUXENT RIVER ---- On 7/26/04 a criminal summons for theft was served on Calvin Jermaine Wiggins, 23, of Patuxent River. Mr. Wiggins is accused of theft from incidents that occurred at B.J.’s Wholesale in California in June of 2004. Tpr. M. W. Laney is conducting this investigation.

Thieves Didn’t Have to be Fleet on Fleetwood

LEXINGTON PARK --- Between 6:00 p.m., on 7/28/04 and 4:30 p.m., on 7/29/04, unknown suspect(s) removed a Lowe’s riding lawn mower from the yard of a residence located on Fleetwood Circle in Lexington Park. The lawn mower is valued at $1500. Tpr. L. N. Nims IV is conducting this investigation.

 

 

CLEMENTS --- On 8/6/04 a criminal summons for theft of a motor vehicle was served on James Francis Morgan Jr, 29, of Clements. Mr. Morgan is accused of the theft of a motor vehicle from an incident that occurred on 7/24/04. TFC J. L. Linger is conducting this investigation.
