Bridge back up, shown here on Rt. 235...traffic waiting to pass
over the Gov. Thomas Johnson Bridge is backed up each day for
about 4 miles, no wrecks were on the bridge, the heavy traffic
is simply choked due to only two lanes on the bridge. Sen.
Roy Dyson, who has made the bridge a priority, gained the
support of Gov.-elect Martin O'Malley for his plan to add a
second span to the bridge. Dyson will once again put his
bill into the General Assembly requiring that the State DOT make
this bridge a top priority. ST. MARY'S TODAY photo

briefly served once before as Captain for several months when
Capt. Steven Doolan was demoted as the infamous Loot
investigation heated up...Horne was diverted back to his
permanent rank when Sheriff David Zylak reached down in the
ranks to Sgt. Kenny Cusic and appointed him as his captain in
Dec. of 2002. Zylak attempted an end run around the

promotion to the rank of Lieutenant, but no such position
existed and the move was blocked. Cusic now will return to

Vehicle Crashed into
7-11 Again
LEXINGTON PARK (Nov. 28, 2006) Not the first time a vehicle has
plowed into this building, with the last time being just two
years ago when a driver drove through the front door of the
attached Tri-County Glass. No major structural damage to
the building, the clerk refused orders from the 911 operator to
evacuate the building. First report from responding
firefighters was that there was simply broken glass and the
vehicle was already backed up and sitting in the parking lot.
The driver refused treatment and the conveniently located glass
company next door might have some more work.

Hundreds of new drunk driving arrests for
2006 now posted online....As
many as 47,500 DWI arrests in Southern
Maryland have been published in the DWI Hit Parade since
1990 in an effort to save your life and the lives of your
family....don't drink and drive this holiday season, give a ride
to those who are drinking...call a cab or call a friend and
don't turn your party into a funeral..
Read more about
Seth Thomas Houseman,
21, of St. Mary’s City who was arrested on
11/5/06 by Maryland State Trooper TFC M. W. Laney. He has
been arrested for DWI in 2003, in 2005 and again this year.
Last year he was reported by police to be kicking at Sheriff's
deputies during his arrest. This is the latest in a series
of arrests for DWI by this young man and a profile will look at
what has happened to him on his prior arrests, how the charges
were disposed of and what, if any, consequences were
administered by the Judges of St. Mary's County. Is it
just a matter of time before this fellow kills someone? |

Deputies Required to Contain
Rowdy Christmas Crowd at Wal-Mart & Best Buy

Line Buster Bully at Best Buy
This cool cat got up early
to be rude to other shoppers, shown at right, at the Best Buy in
California, Md. The man at left is told by the store
manager David Caron to take a hike and respect those who had
stood in line for at least six hours earlier than him. He
argued with the manager and failed to move to the rear of the
line. The Line Buster Bully said "don't publish my picture",
indicating that he has another occupation besides that of
cutting lines. ST. MARY'S TODAY photos by Ahmar Khan
CALIFORNIA --- Two shoppers at Wal-Mart got
in line on Thanksgiving Day at 7:15 pm in order to be first in
line on Friday. Some kids at Best Buy were acting like punks,
but not all, and manager had to call police to get the rowdy
line cutters out of the line. But the guy who cut the line
allowed his friends to join him and they were allowed to stay in
line. They were in line to get one of 18 laptop computers
at Best Buy for a mere $250. At 5 am when the store
opened there were 1200 people outside according to Sheriff's Lt.
Dan Alioto, commander of the patrol division.
Staples and Target were opened at 6 am to a much better
organized sale, much neater and well managed than Wal-Mart and
Best Buy due to the smaller crowds. Del. John Bohanan, a noted
thrifty shopper, was one of those present doing shopping for
Christmas at Staples.
One deputy told ST. MARY'S TODAY that once the new super
Wal-Mart gets open that things might get better at the store,
which now is a mess with construction debris and closed off
parking lots.
Police report that there was fighting at Wal-Mart.

Hollywood brings out array of fire engines and 38 firefighters
for a fire which was started by a turkey cooking in a fryer,
which started a fire which went up into the attic of the garage.
Heavy smoke was reported to be showing when the first
firefighters arrived just after midnight. Firefighters
from Hollywood, Leonardtown, and Bay District worked to find the
extensions of the fire and to put it out. Fire was found
in a room overtop of the garage.

Mailbox Robbery
GOLDEN BEACH --- Police were looking for a black man
wearing a ski mask, at least he had it on when he robbed a woman
on Arlington Drive in Golden Beach, as she had gotten out of her
car to get her mail. The bandit, armed with a long gun,
either a rifle or a shotgun, took off in a dark blue SUV with
Bonnie at the wheel. The Getaway Momma was reported to be
a black female, who has evidently decided that a life of crime
is better than flipping burgers at McDonalds. The PG County
Police reported a similar robbery a couple of hours later.
Cops Nab Blimpie Gang
HERMANVILLE --- Sometime near 2 am on Tuesday another armed
robbery occurred, this time at a convenience store where such
robberies belong. A gang of three black males and one
black female robbed the Quik Mart Blimpies located at Rt. 235
and Hermanville Road in Hermanville. The store is normally
locked, but the gang gained access and robbed the store of
scratch off lottery tickets, Newport cigarettes and cigars.
The Maryland State Police responded to the store while various
deputies and troopers spread out in the area looking for the
gang in a small black car. Within an hour, a deputy found
the gang and arrested them all, with one reported to be a
juvenile. More details coming up... |
