Driver's Failure to Yield Sends Multiple Victims to Hospitals

LEONARDTOWN --- The driver of this
Mercury Grand Marquis, operating with fire department tags by an older woman, failed to
yield as she made a left turn from Rt. 5 onto Rt. 4 just after noon today. The woman
was struck head-on by a Chevy operated by an unlicensed teenage girl. The older
woman was flown to a shock trauma center in serious condition while the teens in the red
Chevy were taken to St. Mary's hospital. The Mercury was tossed into a bus operated
by the Center for Life Enrichment which was transporting about a half dozen
developmentally disabled persons, some of whom were in wheelchairs. Several were hurt and
and the balance were transported in ambulances to the hospital to be checked out.

State Highway employee
called "one hell of a driver"
The driver of this SHA truck was called
"one hell of a driver" by a witness who said the man controlled the big truck as
he steered away to avoid hitting the two cars which had just hit head-on and he jumped two
center curbs and landed inches from a bus which had also been struck. The bus
carried at least a half dozen disabled persons. The truck was undamaged and was
driven away. This state worker deserves a big tip of the hat.
