Police Seek Aid from Public in Locking Up Burglars
Who Have Looted 18 Homes in St. Charles

WALDORF --- The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about an increase in residential burglaries in the Lancaster, Hampshire and Dorchester neighborhoods of St. Charles and is asking citizens to be vigilant and report suspicious activity.

The Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating 18 burglaries in these neighborhoods that have occurred since the end of May. The burglaries have occurred between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays and no one has been home at the time of the burglary. The burglar(s) stole items such as money, home electronics and video games.

Detectives do not believe this string of burglaries is related to the burglaries in the Billingsley Road and Bensville Road areas. However, the Sheriff’s Office urges citizens to take the same precautions as residents of those areas, including securing locks on their homes and watching out for neighbors’ homes. Residents are also encouraged to schedule a free home security survey from the Crime Prevention Unit by calling 301-932-3080. During the surveys, officers inspect homes and determine what improvements can be made to increase security at the home.

Anyone who sees anything suspicious in their neighborhoods, including suspicious persons or unfamiliar vehicles, should contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office immediately at 301-932-7777, 301-932-2222 or 301-743-2222. In an emergency, dial 911.

Anyone who may have information regarding these burglaries should contact the Criminal Investigations Division, Property Crimes Unit. Additionally, those with information can call Charles County Crime Solvers at 301-932-6909 or 1-800-673-2777. Crime Solvers offers rewards of up to $1000 for tips that lead to an arrest or indictment.
