LEONARDTOWN --- St. Mary's Sheriff's Sgt. Christopher Medved reports that on Tuesday, August 31 at 6:30 pm, Jesse Aaron Garner escaped from the St. Mary's County Detention Center.  Garner was sentenced to the St. Mary's County Detention Center for 179 days for non-payment of child support.  Garner was authorized to participate in the work release program while serving his sentence.

Garner had just returned to the Detention Center from his employment,  when he ran from correctional officers into the adjoining
woods.  Sheriff's Office and Maryland State Police units responded and established a perimeter as the search began.  Trooper 7  assisted with the search from the air, as the Sheriff's Office canine was used to track the suspect.  Search efforts were unsuccessful and Garner is currently wanted by the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office for felony
