Rednecks Riot at Solomon's 7-11
SOLOMON'S ISLAND --- Just before 1 am on
Saturday, a state trooper called for help as a white male he was arresting
busted up his police cruiser. Other officers sped to his assistance
when he reported he had a large crowd out of control at the 7-11 in Patuxent
Plaza. A white male fled from police towards the Holiday Inn.
Minutes later a citizen reported to police that a possible drunk driver
nearly caused two wrecks while crossing the Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge.
Calvert Sheriff Mike Evans reports more than a dozen arrests from a crowd of
between 5,000 and 10,000 people. The arrests began early for DWI and
continued until late. More arrests took place later for assault,
cocaine possession, property destruction and a number of other offences not
normally associated with tourism. But this is the way the Calvert
County Commissioners have decided to bring notoriety to Solomon's. The
annual boozefest celebrates the opening of the Tiki Bar. The Calvert
Commissioners provide free parking, free shuttle buses and police for the
small bar as hordes of problem drinkers mix with those simply looking for a
good time. Solomon's residents report their yards turned into open air
restrooms, with some couples fornicating on their lawns and their shrubs
destroyed. The local Republican Party has a lot to be proud of
with the Calvert Commissioners who host this event.
