Wanted Man Nabbed along with Drugs
LEXINGTON PARK --- On 5/7/04, at 6:00 p.m., Tpr. T. H. Quade and Tpr. L. N. Nims responded
to a residence on Valley Court in Lexington Park for a wanted person. Upon contacting the
subject he gave a false name and date of birth.While interviewing the subject, police
report thta he fled from the residence. After a brief chase the subject was apprehended
and identified as William J. Swales, 24 years, of Lexington Park. Mr. Swales was placed
under arrest for an open warrant by the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office. A search
incident to arrest revealed crack cocaine on his person. Mr. Swales was charged
additionally with possession of CDS and incarcerated in the Detention Center pending a
bond hearing.
Pot-Luck
LEONARDTOWN --- On 5/12/04, at 7:15 a.m., Tpr. J. L. Linger initiated a traffic stop on a
vehicle on St. John's Road in Leonardtown. After the driver came to a stop, Tpr. Linger
observed him making furtive movements. According to police, a search incident to probable
cause revealed suspected marijuana and a CDS smoking device and a metal scale containing
suspected marijuana residue where the driver was reaching in the vehicle. Richard M.
Russell, 22 years, of Mechanicsville, was arrested and charged with possession of CDS and
CDS paraphernalia. He was incarcerated in the Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
Man Threatens Court Official
LEONARDTOWN --- On 05/12/04 the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office received information
regarding the suspect Robert Claude Johnson making a threat against a Judiciary Official
in St. Mary's County. The investigation continued by the St. Mary's County Bureau of
Criminal Investigation and through witness interviews and other investigative findings a
warrant was issued for the suspects arrest. On 05/12/04 the suspect was arrested and
incarcerated in the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending appearance in front of the
Court Commissioner.
A Pink Herring
MORGANZA --- On May 12, 2004 Dfc. Michael A. Labanowski initiated a vehicle stop regarding
a reported disturbance in the Morganza area of St. Mary's County. Dfc. Labanowski noted
that the operator of the motor vehicle appeared to be intoxicated. After several field
sobriety tests the operator of the vehicle was placed under arrest for operating a motor
vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, police report. The operator was identified
as Kristi A. Herring, 45, from the Upper Marlboro area of Prince Georges County.
Take-Out Robbers
WALDORF --- Police report that on May 12 at 10:50 p.m., a 44-year-old
Waldorf man was delivering food to a residence in the 4000 block of Bluebird Drive in
Waldorf when he was approached by two suspects who demanded money. The man refused and the
suspects took the food and fled the scene. The man did not sustain any injuries. One
suspect is described as a white male with a thin build and was wearing a hat, dark-colored
shorts and a T-shirt. The other suspect is described as a black male, approximately 18
years old, and was wearing a white shirt and dark colored jeans. Anyone with information
about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff's Office at

Man Robs 3 Women
LA PLATA --- Police Report that on May 12 at 5:40 p.m., James Herbert, 21, of
Mechanicsville, approached the occupants of a vehicle on Heritage Green Parkway at Crain
Highway in La Plata and asked for money. The victims complied and the suspect forcibly
took money from one of the victims, stole a bag of clothing from another victim and fled
the scene.
None of the victims, an 18-year-old Waldorf woman and an 18-year-old woman and 36-year-old
woman, both of Charlotte Hall, were injured.
Herbert was arrested later in Hughesville and charged with three counts of Robbery, two
counts of Assault and three counts of Theft Less Than $500 and is being held at the
Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court
Commissioner. Officer J. Harman investigated.
Child Abuser Brought to Justice
WHITE PLAINS --- Police report that on April 18, the Charles County Sheriff's Office
received the report of suspected child abuse occurring at a residence in White Plains.
Investigation revealed a 41-year-old man at the residence had sexually assaulted a
14-year-old girl, a foster child in his care, at the residence on approximately five
separate occasions over a two week period from March to April.
A warrant for the man's arrest was obtained May 11, 2004. The man turned himself in at the
La Plata District Station on May 12. He is being held at the Charles County Detention
Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
Waldorf Assault
WALDORF --- According to police, on May 12 at 12:54 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's
Officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Stoddert Avenue in Waldorf for the
report of the assault. Investigation revealed Charles Herman Williams Jr, 32, of Waldorf,
allegedly assaulted a 28-year-old Waldorf man at the residence.
The man sustained injuries and was transported to Civista Medical Center. Williams was
charged with First- and Second- Degree Assault and First Degree Burglary and is being held
at the Charles County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond. Officer J. Burroughs
investigated.
He can be Queen of the Jail
NEWBURG --- Police report that on May 11 at 12:11 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's Officers
responded to the White House Motel in the 11100 block of Crain Highway in Newburg, for the
report of a fight in the parking lot. Investigation revealed Jarrard Elliott Queen, 37, of
Waldorf, allegedly damaged a 29-year-old Newburg woman's vehicle with a board and
allegedly threw a beverage container at a 53-year-old Newburg man. Queen fled before
officers arrived. Officers located Queen at the Thunderbird Motel in the 11000 block of
Crain Highway in La Plata and placed him under arrest shortly thereafter. A subsequent
search revealed Queen was allegedly in possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. Queen
was charged with First Degree Assault, two counts of Second Degree Assault, Destruction of
Property more than $500, Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Paraphernalia and is
being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the
District Court Commissioner. Officer J. Carlson investigated.
Kicking the Tires
INDIAN HEAD -- According to Police, sometime between 10:30 p.m. on May 8
and 6:30 a.m. on May 9 suspect(s) kicked a vehicle at a residence in the 20 block of Dale
Drive in Indian Head, causing damage to the vehicle. The suspect(s) then fled the scene.

A Life of Grimes
WALDORF --- Police report that on May 7 at 2:20 a.m., Charles County Patrol Officer D.
Gross was in the 2900 block of Smallwood Drive West in Waldorf when he allegedly observed
Anthony Keith Grimes, 22, of Indian Head, assaulting a 22-year-old Lusby woman. Officer
Gross stopped to help the woman and arrest Grimes. Grimes was charged with Second Degree
Assault and is being held at the Charles County Sheriff's Office pending an appearance
before the District Court Commissioner.
