STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TO CLOSE PORTION
OF MD 238 IN ST. MARY'S COUNTY

One-Week Closure Scheduled to Begin Monday, April 25

(April 13, 2005) - Beginning Monday April 25, the Maryland Department of
Transportation's State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close a
section of MD 238 (Maddox Road) between Hurry and Manor Roads in Chapitco.
The 2.4 mile closure of MD 238 is necessary as SHA crews replace an aging
storm drain pipe under the roadway.

SHA will close MD 238 beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 25.  At that
time, motorists traveling along northbound MD 238 will detour onto eastbound
Manor Road, then turn left onto northbound Hurry Road and proceed to
northbound MD 238.  The road will be closed until Thursday, April 28 at
approximately 3 p.m.

Motorists traveling southbound along MD 238 will proceed onto southbound
Hurry Road, then turn right onto westbound Manor Road and proceed to
southbound MD 238.  The four-mile detour will be marked with variable
message signs, arrow boards, traffic cones and barrels to guide motorists
around the work area.

SHA appreciates motorists' patience and cooperation during this temporary
closure.  Citizens with questions about traffic operations on MD 238 or
other State numbered routes within St. Mary's County may call SHA's District
5 Office at 410-841-5450 or toll-free at 1-800-331-5603.
