Teens Charged as Adults
in Armed Carjacking Attempts
LUSBY --- In the ever-increasingly violent community of Chesapeake Ranch Estates
with a serious juvenile crime problem, three teens were apprehended on Friday
evening after they attempted to rob as many as three citizens at gunpoint of the
victim's vehicles, reports Calvert Sheriff's spokesman Deputy Chip Allen.
Dep. Allen reports that on May 6th, 2005 at 8:06 pm, deputies from the Calvert
County Sheriff’s Dept. responded to the area of Dry Creek Court and Catalina
Drive for a reported attempted armed car jacking. Investigation revealed three
males attempted to car jack a victim in the area of Tomahawk Trail and
Rattlesnake Road, Lusby, by displaying a handgun and demanding the car.
The operator was able to accelerate and get away from the suspects. The suspects
again attempted a car jacking in the area of Tomahawk Trail and North Catalina
the victim was able to drive away prior to the suspects entering his vehicle. A
third victim saw the suspects and attempted to contact them. One of the suspects
pulled a handgun from his jacket and pointed it at the victim. The victim left
the area and called police.
The suspects were located on Chisholm Trail in the area of Catalina Drive.
Deputies were able to take them in to custody without incident. A handgun was
recovered from one of the suspects.
Detective J. Angle of the Calvert Investigative Team charged each of the
juveniles as adults with two count of 1st Degree Assault, one count of 2nd
Degree Assault and two count of Armed Car Jacking.
The were transported to the Calvert County Detention Center for processing, they
are identified as Anthony J. Williams, 16 years old of Lusby, Md., Derrick D.
Beatty, 16 years old of Lusby, Md. and Richard E. Moore Jr., 17 years old of
Lusby, Md. They are being held on $250,000 bond each.
