(Saturday April 16, 2005) This morning at approximately
1000 AM, two improvised explosive devices were discovered on the northern side
of the campus. Everyone is being evacuated from North Campus to the Campus
Center. Emergency personnel are on site and the entire area is being checked to
ensure the safety of our community. We appreciate your patience and cooperation
during this challenging situation. Emergency crews are working diligently to
resolve the situation as quickly as it can safely and responsibly be done. For
additional information please visit the INFO BOOTH at the Campus Center.
Michael Freeman
Vice-President and Dean of the College
(Editor's Note: Since the
Maryland State Fire Marshal described the objects as being "vibratory devices",
perhaps the only thing explosive was the panic spread by the college over
innocent objects.)
