Thousands of Katrina Refugees Being Housed in Maryland

REISTERSTOWN --- - As of Friday, Sept. 16th, 3,384 Katrina evacuees had registered with American Red Cross chapters in Maryland, according to the Red Cross. This represents 1,374 families.
 
The largest numbers of evacuees were in Prince George's County (948 people) and Montgomery County (746 people). In the five jurisdictions in Central Maryland (Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties and Baltimore City), 1,051 people had registered.
 
The Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) will continue to provide updates on Katrina evacuees in Maryland, including a more detailed county-by-county breakdown when it is available.
