LEXINGTON PARK ----
On September 26, 2006 at approximately 8:50 PM, police report that Jonathan B. Howard went to his estranged wife’s residence located in Lexington Park, St. Mary’s County Maryland armed with a semi-automatic handgun.

Once at the residence, police say that Howard fired several shots through the back door of the residence allowing him entry. Once inside, the Howard confronted  Jacqueline Howard, his wife from whom police say he is legally separated from and her boyfriend, Mark Peterson.  Police say that Howard fired several shots inside the residence striking his wife once in the left leg and Peterson at least four (4) times in the chest. Jacquline Howard was able to flee the residence but was pursued by Jonathan Howard and caught in the street where he physically assaulted her further.  Police say that the man then fled down the street where he shot himself one time in the chest and collapsed dead. Jacqueline Howard was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.  Mark Peterson was pronounced dead at the scene along with suspect Jonathan Howard.
This shooting comes on the heels of unprecedented violence at the St. Mary's County Fair this past weekend and just two weeks after a shooting incident at the nearby Great Mills Road Wawa.
The out of control crime problem, bar brawls and shootings have St. Mary's Sheriff David Zylak likely looking for a new job as he barely inched ahead of his Democratic Primary opponent on Sept. 12th and now faces certain defeat at the hands of Republican Tim Cameron.

This shootout is less than a half mile from the scene of a rush-hour shootout which took place on Great Mills Road several years ago, in broad daylight, after a bunch of young men finished a basketball game at Great Mills High School and began a running fight on the road which ended in a gunfight.
