Two Firefighters Charged with
Brutal Assault at Benedict Marina

BENEDICT --- The Charles County Sheriff’s Office has charged two firefighters in connection with an assault at Benedict Marina in May.
Sheriff’s officers responded to Benedict Marina, located at 19311 Wilmott Drive in Benedict, for the report of a fight on May 21 at 12:31 a.m. Their initial investigation revealed three suspects assaulted a 34-year-old Calvert County man and fled the scene. The victim sustained facial injuries and was flown to Suburban Hospital by a Maryland State Police helicopter. The victim did not know the identity of the suspects and could not advise a motive for the attack.
As the investigation progressed, Officers D. Walker and C. Wimberly identified the suspects based on witness information. On June 9, they obtained criminal summonses for David Glenn Therres, Sr., 47, of Benedict, and his son, David Glenn Therres, Jr., 26, of Prince Frederick. Both men are members of the Benedict Vol. Fire Dept. with the elder Therres an officer of the department.
The summonses charge both men with second degree assault. The third suspect was identified but was not charged.
The younger Therres was served his summons on June 13 and the senior Therres was served his on June 15. Both were released pending court appearances.
