Two in Family Die in Rip Currents at Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, MD. - A Coast Guard rescue crew from Station Ocean City, Md., recovered two people from the water near 78th Street Oceanside in Ocean City after receiving notification from 911 operators at about 6 p.m. of four people being swept away by a rip current.

A 25-foot search and rescue boat was dispatched to the scene where they recovered 46-year-old Douglas Richard Martin and 15-year-old Amy Elizabeth Martin, unconscious, and immediately started performing CPR.

The Coast Guard crew transported the victims to medical personnel crews waiting on shore who took them to Greater Berlin Hospital where they were later pronounced deceased. Two other members of the Martin family were rescued by the Ocean City Beach Patrol and taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.  All four members of the Martin family are from Columbia, Md.
