USCG SUSPENDS SEARCH FOR PORTSMOUTH MAN
PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Coast Guard officials have made the decision to suspend the search for a Portsmouth man after a 12-hour search that began July 6th shortly after 9 a.m.
Rescue crews and good Samaritans began searching for Brad Coles, 26, after he apparently became sea sick, leaned over the rail of the vessel Wild Man, and fell overboard.
Search and rescue controllers in Portsmouth and Cape Hatteras, N.C., determined that the two Coast Guard rescue helicopters and a Coast Guard rescue boat, along with the assistance of nearly 25 good Samaritans from the area, had thoroughly searched the 63-square mile area where Coles fell overboard and could suspend pending further developments.
Coles was a two year veteran fire fighter of the Portsmouth City Fire Department.
