VIRGINIA MAN CHARGED WITH SELLING FIREWORKS

HUGHESVILLE, MD (June 17, 2006)—Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged 77 year old David Hill from Springfield,Va., with selling fireworks without a license as required under Maryland Law.

Investigators learned that Mr. Hill was at the Hughesville Bargain Barn located at 8275 Leonardtown Road selling fireworks. When investigators confronted him, they learned that he was selling 1.4g (formerly known as Class C Common Fireworks) without a license to do so. Hill was also selling ground base sparkling devices which are legal for sale in Maryland.

Investigators seized the fireworks and Mr. Hill was issued a criminal summons for possession and selling of fireworks without a license. He was released pending his appearance in the District Court of Maryland. Mr. Hill if convicted is facing fines up to $1,000.00.

Only ground base sparkling devices and gold sparklers are permitted to be possessed and sold in Maryland. Some jurisdictions in Maryland have made it illegal to possess and sell ground base sparkling devices along with other firework items. Check with your local jurisdictions pertaining to the laws for the possessing of these types of firework items.
