Walking in the road proved fatal; driver going too fast to stop hit and killed man who had become stuck in snow
HUGHESVILLE --- On Feb. 25 at 5:17 a.m., a 1986 Ford Thunderbird was traveling north on Oliver Shop Road near Burnt Store Road in Hughesville when the vehicle slid off the ice-covered roadway and became stuck in the snow. The driver, William Gary McGowan, 63, of Bryantown, exited the vehicle and began walking in the roadway toward his home. A 2001 Ford Ranger was traveling north on Oliver Shop Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle while rounding a curve. The Ranger slid on the roadway and struck McGowan. McGowan was transported to Civista Medical Center where he died of his injuries. The driver of the Ranger, William Edward Guilliams, 49, of Charlotte Hall, was not injured. Officer S. Stanley of the traffic operations unit is investigating.
Pegg Road ShellMart Stick Up Gang Arrested
LEXINGTON PARK --- On 02/23/05 the St. Marys County Bureau of Criminal Investigations arrested four suspects for an armed robbery that occurred on 01/17/05 at the Shell Gas Station on Pegg Road in Lexington Park. The suspects were identified as Henry Hinson, 18 years of age, from Lexington Park, Charles Plater, 18 years of age, from Lexington Park, a 17 year old juvenile from Lexington Park who was charged as an adult and another juvenile male from Lexington Park who was charged as a juvenile. The suspects were charged with armed robbery, robbery, theft and assault. The investigation continues.
Burglars Remove Heavy Equipment
HUNTINGTOWN --- On 2-16, a resident of Plum Point Rd., Huntingtown, reported that an unknown culprit had removed a trailer containing paving equipment from his yard. The property is valued at $3,000. TPR Mounts is handling the investigation.
Smoked Driver Sent to Slammer
OWINGS --- On 2-16, 9:31 PM, Rt. 4, Owings, TFC Schmidt stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The operator, Stephen James Clark, 24, of Prince Frederick, was subsequently arrested for DUI. Incident to arrest suspected marijuana and a CDS smoking device were located on his person and in the vehicle. Clark was then charged with possession of marijuana and CDS paraphernalia. After processing, he was incarcerated in the CCDC to await a commissioners hearing.
Heathens Reign on Sitting Bull
LUSBY --- On 2-17, a resident of Sitting Bull Trl., Lusby, reported that an unknown culprit had broken out two windows to her vehicle and removed a small amount of currency. TFC Bowling is handling the investigation.
Hooligans Clean Out Workingmans Truck
NORTH BEACH --- On 2-18, a resident of 7th St., North Beach, reported that an unknown culprit had forcibly entered his work vehicle and removed $4,000 in plumbing tools. TFC Koch is handling the investigation.
Chop Shop on Wheels
PRINCE FREDERICK --- On 2-19, approximately 10:25 PM, a resident of Old Time Dr., Prince Frederick, exited his residence after hearing a loud noise. At that time, he noticed a black vehicle exiting his driveway. He then observed that the headlight assembly and grill assembly had been stolen from his black 1998 Ford Ranger. TFC Whipp is handling the investigation.
