Woman Killed When Walking Into Traffic

WHITE SANDS ---  On Friday morning, April 16, 2004, at approximately 7:25 AM, a fatal pedestrian accident occurred on southbound MD Rt. 2-4, just
south of White Sands Drive, Lusby, Calvert County, Maryland.

Investigation revealed that Sandra Ann Carey (26 of Lusby, MD) was on foot, attempting to cross MD Rt. 2-4.  Sharon L. Grieb (36 of Hollywood,
MD) was traveling south on MD Rt. 2-4, in a 1998 Hyundai Sonata.  Ms. Grieb traveled through the green signal light at White Sands Drive and
apparently did not see Ms. Carey walking across MD Rt. 2-4.  Ms. Grieb's sedan struck Ms. Carey approximately 100 feet south of the
intersection.  Witness accounts and evidence from the scene determined that Ms. Grieb was traveling at or below the posted speed limit.  Ms.
Carey was not in a crosswalk and apparently failed to see Ms. Grieb's vehicle lawfully traveling south on MD Rt. 2-4.  Ms. Carey was
pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Southbound MD Rt. 2-4 was closed for approximately 2.5 hours to facilitate the investigation.  This investigation is continuing.
