YOUTH APPREHENDED IN CHESAPEAKE BEACH

DWELLING FIRE INVESTIGATION

CHESAPEAKE BEACH, MD (April 28, 2005) -- Deputy State Fire Marshals have apprehended a 17-year-old juvenile from Chesapeake Beach in connection with an arson that caused an estimated $109,000 damage to a home under renovation on "D" Street, also in Chesapeake Beach. The April 19, 2005 blaze also caused an undetermined amount of damage to three nearby homes. The youth has been referred to the Department of Juvenile Services and has been released into the custody of his parents pending adjudication.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was treated and released at the scene of the 1:41 a.m. blaze. There were no civilian injuries. Residents of the three adjacent homes have been temporarily displaced.

Investigators were able to determine the blaze was deliberately ignited near the front entrance of the two story, wood-frame home. Evidence at the scene and other information developed during the investigation established the fire was incendiary and indicated the youth’s involvement. The investigation is continuing to determine if other individuals were involved.
