Youth Fishing Derby June 6th

The Southern Maryland Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA) invites all to enjoy a day in the outdoors by attending a free Youth Fishing Derby on Sunday, June 6, 2004.
This fun filled event takes place at their beautiful "Outdoor Education Center" and fishing pond. Activities begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Southern Maryland Chapter home, located at the end of Gardiner Road, in Waldorf, Maryland.
The youngsters are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear if they have it. Some tackle will also be onsite to loan. Bait will be available. Those over the age of 16 must have a fishing license. All who participate will be provided a certificate.
Trophies will be awarded to young anglers for, the most fish caught, biggest fish and smallest fish. Food and drinks will be available for purchase during the June 6 fishing day. The IWLA Southern Maryland Chapter home and "Outdoor Education Center" is easy to find, and is located just a few miles from the intersection of Popular Hill and Mattawoman Beantown Roads. Turn onto Popular Hill Road from Mattawoman-Beantown and then turn right onto Gardiner Road. Follow Gardiner Road to its end at the IWLA Southern Maryland Chapter property. The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) Southern Maryland Chapter invites all to attend their annual JAKES day on Saturday, June 26, 2004. There is also an optional camp out the Friday evening before, on June 25. All events take place at the IWLA Southern Maryland Chapter home and "Outdoor Education Center".
The NWTF Juniors Achieving Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship (JAKES) is a federation wide effort which provides youth up to the age of 17 the opportunity to learn and enjoy the outdoors. Many different activities are available which provide both fun and education. Attending the June 26 JAKES day and/or the optional June 25 camp out is free of charge. Equipment, supplies, food, and drink are provided, but those attending the Friday night camp out must bring their own tent, bedding and related gear. All youth attending must be accompanied by an adult.
Please register the youth attending no later than June 18 by providing the following information:
Name, Address, Contact Phone Number, Age, Indicate whether they are attending the NWTF-JAKES overnight camp out on Friday, June 25 and/or the Saturday events on June 26.

End of Spring Gobbler Season
The 2004 Maryland Spring gobbler season ends after 12:00 noon, Monday, May 24. Bag limits are one bearded turkey per day and one bearded turkey per season or if no turkey was harvested during the fall season, two bearded turkeys per season.

Rockfish Season: Don't catch
rockfish after midnight!
The current Maryland striped bass (rockfish) continues through Dec. 15, 2004. Creel and
possession limits are 2 fish at 18"- 28" or 1 fish 18" - 28" and 1
larger than 28" per person per day. Striped bass may not be in possession while
fishing between 12:00 midnight and 5:00 a.m. during this season.
From May 16 through May 31, the area within Maryland Chesapeake Bay waters in which striped bass can be in possession per Maryland DNR Fisheries Service is as follows:
"Geographical boundaries are modified, with open area/closed area demarcation lines moved 5 nautical miles from the previous locations for the Upper Bay (Brewerton Channel), Chester River, Choptank River, and Patuxent River. Specific information on the location of the modified demarcation lines: May 16 through May 31 for the following areas:
"a)Upper Chesapeake Bay. All of the waters of the Chesapeake Bay south of a line beginning at a point at or near the end of Maryland Route 20 at Tolchester, defined by Lat. 39E12.91N and Long. 76E14.63W; then running approximately 282E True to a point at or near the south corner of the Hart-Miller Island dike, defined by Lat. 39E14.23N and Long. 76E22.44W.
"b) Chester River: All of the waters of Chester River and its tributaries downstream of a line beginning at a point at or near Hail Point, defined by Lat. 39E00.76N and Long. 76E12.00W; then running approximately 216E True to a point at or near Long Point, defined by Lat. 38E58.81N and Long. 76E13.80W.
"c) Choptank River: All of the waters of the Choptank River and its tributaries downstream of a line beginning at a point at or near Holland Point at the west entrance of Irish Creek, defined by Lat. 38E41.88N and Long. 76E13.61W; then running approximately 174E True to a point at or near a point of land at the west entrance of Chapel Creek, defined by Lat. 38E36.59N and Long. 76E12.91W.
